Trevor "Lex" Alexander's life has been less than blessed. In the past year he's had to battle corrupt corporations, deranged techno-terrorists, and a robotic scourge. Now he's received the opportunity to finally return to the racing career that had been cut short by some poor decisions. One could excuse him for not wanting to be embroiled in another insane adventure when he is so close to returning to his life's calling. Sometimes the call of duty will not be denied.
Karter Dee, a certified lunatic responsible for many of Lex's recent woes, has discovered a threat on an unprecedented scale. He and Ma, his AI caretaker, know their plan to solve the problem will take a special mixture of competence, improvisation, and disregard for personal safety. Reluctance aside, Lex is the only man for the job. Even with the skilled pilot on the team, the scope of the problem has grown so massive that it may be unsolvable in its current state. Some would consider the situation hopeless, but any good engineer knows if you can't find a solution, you have to change the problem. To give human society a chance at a future, Lex, Karter, and Ma will have to venture into the past.

I'll start off by saying that I really loved the first three books in the series, they were funny and exciting. I enjoyed the world Lex was living in and all the people that live there with him. Book 4 was almost the exact opposite. There was very little humor in it and there were plot holes you were expected to ignore for the sake of the story. And well there's Ma. I love Ma but not so much in this one. I did however love Coal. The very very end of the story was ambiguous as to what happened. And if what happened happened......no. I haven't lost faith in the author but if book 5 goes the way of book 4 I may just have to pass on further books. I'm sorry I had to give 2 stars but it was almost 1.Product details

Temporal Contingency Big Sigma Series Book 4 (Audible Audio Edition) Joseph R Lallo John Forbes Books in Motion Books Reviews
Wow, hang onto your ! Lallo delivers a cracking pace in this latest of the Big Sigmas Series. Our favourite characters are back but with intriguing new developments. Concentrate though or you'll find yourself temporally challenged as Lallo zig zags us from one time zone to another. Lex, our human hero shows some endearing traits and Ma . . . well here Joseph Lallo really 'brings it on'. I love his mix of thrill, danger, compassion and humour - Temporal Contingency is a winner.
OMG! How can you top time travel?! It's always a hard subject for Sci Fi writers and you can never escape paradoxes, it takes a v good author to make the paradoxes workable, while there were still questions (there always is!) Mr Lallo again brings a fantastic story to the table, his most fast paced twisty one yet IMO. He manages to wrangle the time travel angle with multiple versions of the characters in another great story to 'save the universe'! This one I will need to re-read to grab all the nuances involved, but not before I've started again fromBig Sigma 1! Can't wait for the my next Big Sigma fix!
This was better than the last in the series. And it was dense with characters/information so that it actually took me a couple of days to read. I hope the author writes more books as there is a lot to explore with every character. The characters are so well developed that I would love a "biography" of Karter and one from Ma's perspective.
While it has enough information for me to feel exitement for the next book in the series there is no cliffhanger - which is great. There is a sense of closure.
When oh when is the next book coming out, or is the series over. Love the characters. The whole time travel bit can be a little confusing at times, I'm just a lay person with limited college knowledge on the subject, but bravo. Love the Ma's. You'll see what I mean. Carter is his usual self no matter how many you run into but I still like the man. Love the main character but you have to love a "Mad engineer."
This author has to be my current favorite. Love all his writing, especially the Book of Deacon series. Having just finished Temporal Contingency I have mixed feelings. It was a great book, but not as outstanding as some of his other work. I love, love, loved Coal, and liked the idea of Ziva but I guess there was maybe too much going on for me? Too much zipping backwards and forwards in time? Or maybe I'm a bit jaded? I'm going to give it a couple of months and reread. It's definitely worth reading again, and I certainly don't regret purchasing and would still highly recommend.
I really enjoyed the first three books in Joseph Lallo's Big Sigma series. The characters were very interesting, the plots engaging, and the pace fast - real page-turners. So I couldn't wait for this fourth story. I even preordered it so I could read it right away. But Temporal Contingency let me down. Perhaps Mr. Lallo overreached this time, or perhaps I was just jaded, but I found the writing very talky and the pace consequently much too slow. I did like what he did with Ma, the AI character, but the rest just left me cold. And the cover - really?
I like the author's work. I really enjoyed his prior books in this series and his Deacon fantasy series. Book 4, our hero grows up a little bit and Ma, the computer grows a lot. Once again Lex is saving the universe, our crazy engineer/scientist is even "madder" in his crazy way, and we get to visit the past, present, and future. The scope of the plot was larger than Lallo's prior books in the series and was well done. It didn't have quite the same level of humor that his prior books gave me, but it's still a 5-star book in a great series that every space opera science fiction fan and anyone that likes the old fashioned type of sci-fi story. Aficionados of heros, spaceships, computers, crazy scientists, world and universe building will enjoy the Big Sigma series.
